Mitchell was schooled in rural Oregon schools and learned farming. He received a PhD. in Soil and Environmental Science, and worked for the USDA Agricultural Research Service as a research scientist, and later for Oregon State University. He had published many works in agricultural science.
He and his family moved to Vernon, UT, in 1997 to embark on the restoration of the Bennion Rancy, his wife's ancestral home nestled against the Sheeprock Mountains in western Utah. He has done teaching and consulting for Utah State University, Brigham Young University, and Utah Valley State College
I am interested in Mormon Classicism, which I define as the use of classical forms to describe the Mormon experience. I am the Mormon Geothe.
