Daniel "Dan" Bischoff, a Salt Lake City portrait, figure, still-life, and landscape painter, was born in Ogden and died in Salt Lake City. This artist was one of the most talented figure painters and portraitists to come out of the University of Utah classroom of Alvin Gittins, who was the master of painting in that realm. In the 1970's, Baxter was teaching at the U of U and working on commissions for clients in California when he won the grand prize at the Annual Deseret News Art Show (1975). Gittins urged him to go to New York City, where Baxter's painting successes continued through the years in New York, San Francisco, and Salt Lake City.
