Darrell Spencer has taught writing at Brigham Young University, Ohio University, and Southern Utah University. His book CAUTION: Men in Trees won the 1998 Flannery O'Connor Award for Short Fiction. His story, "Song and Dance," won second prize in the 1990 Utah Arts Council Contest, and "Union Business" won the 1991 Lawrence Foundation Award for the Short Story. His first collection, Woman Packing a Pistol (Dragon Gate, 1987), won the Association for Mormon Letters award for short stories in 1988. His short stories have appeared in numerous journals, including the Gettysburg Review, Antioch Review and Epoch.
