Joan Shaw was originally frojm New Jersey and points east. She lived on a farm in Lewiston, Utah for over 23 years. She began writing while an undergraduate and sold her first story in 1970. Her book of short stories, The Uncle, received first prize and publication prize from the Utah Arts Council's literary competitions of 1980 and 1981. She and her husband, Alan, had six children and many grandchildren.
