Lydia was born in Salt Lake City, Utah on June 5, 1907 to Thomas Jarvis Yates and Lillie Annetta Fairbanks Yates. She loved her home, music, making quilts, cooking, traveling, reunions, gardening, entertaining, collecting pioneer heirlooms, and writing family histories. Lydia made many close friends while serving in Primary, Sunday School, Relief Society, as a visiting teacher, in the Daughters of the Utah Pioneers, and helping handicapped children. She was the Utah Mother of the year in 1983.
