Mary Goble Pay (1843-1913) was born in Brighton, Sussex, England. She was baptized in England in 1855, and emigrated with her parents to Utah in 1856. She and her family encountered serious hardship as members of the handcart companies of that year. The mother and two children died en route, and Mary\'s toes were amputated. She later married and lived most of her life in Nephi, Utah. Her autobiography contains rich detail about the Indian-pioneer relationships in Central Utah.
