Richard is in the hospital when he hears a nurse dismiss him as a C. C. patient, or a Church Charity patient. He thinks she doesn’t make a good nurse because she doesn’t care about her patients, and he resolves to recover and become a doctor. He manages to go to college and find a job at a hospital, and one of the doctors there takes him on as his assistant because Richard demonstrated so much care with the children. Richard then has to choose a supervisor for the hospital, and he picks a nurse who genuinely cares about the children she is helping.
