Janet and her husband, Dave, host Dr. Frances Booker for the summer. Dr. Booker is working on a project with Dave but quickly gets on Janet's bad side when she judges her for being a housewife. At dinner, they discuss the story of Mary and Martha, and Janet feels belittled by both Frances and Dave. One night Frances mocks her ways as a housewife, and it pushes Janet over the edge. She storms out of the room and decides to go for a drive. While standing on a stool trying to reach the keys, the stool breaks and Janet falls. Janet is badly injured and must lie in bed while Frances takes over her duties. After just one morning of cooking and cleaning, Frances is worn out. Both parties are more understanding of the other as they find themselves in the other’s shoes.
