Leta meets Louise Bear-Paw, a Native American, at a park in the Canadian Rockies. Leta and Louise become friends, and later Louise introduces Leta to her boyfriend, Fred. Fred is a member of the Church of Latter-day Saints, and he explains the Church’s belief that Native Americans are Lamanites and thus the children of Abraham. Leta and Louise both want to be baptized, but Louise believes that Fred loves Leta, not her, so she runs away. She is fatally wounded when Fred finds her. Fred tells her that he always loved her, not Leta, but Louise, aware that she is dying, tells him to marry Leta and perform her ordinances for her. Fred sorrowfully asks why he found Louise just to lose her, and he hears a voice answer that he cannot lose her, because the works of God are eternal.
