Elder Leland L. Mortensen tells of his experience being attacked by a mob on his mission in Mexico. At the time, there was a religious crisis in Mexico, with Mexican Catholics, or "Cismaticos," separating themselves from the Catholic church and attacking other churches. The Mexicans were hostile toward any religious representatives because of this, and they attacked Elder Mortensen and his companion, Elder Abdon Aragon. They chased the missionaries, shot at them, and beat them, and they locked the injured and sick missionaries in prison with no medical care or water. the Saints and other missionaries in the area supported them, and eventually the missionaries were released due to the efforts of Church members and missionaries there, as well as the growing sympathies of the officials.
