Marie Rochelle, a Catholic, has been meeting with Latter-day Saint missionaries Faber and Bourne. Her friend, Jean Lemaire, resists the Church because he relies solely on reason. Her Catholic confessor resists the Church because he relies solely on faith. Marie eventually is converted and baptized, but she falls in love with one of the missionaries, causing Jean to stop learning about the Church because he assumes she converted just for love. The missionary later breaks up with Marie, and Marie explains to Jean about the true gospel.
