Dan Walsen, a man of substance, intellectual attainment, and spiritual insight, looks back from middle life to the beginning of the twentieth century, when he was a boy, and re-examines the experiences and environmental forces that have matured him to his present status. Life, he concludes, begins with little things: adventures, discoveries, mistakes, frequent repentance, and in his case, the guidance of people of great enterprise and profound religious faith.
