Amy, as a young mother, is desperate for an easier way to do some of the housework. When she sees a washer for sale, she wishes they had the money to buy it. When she learns her husband had won first place in a competition and got fifty dollars, she’s certain if she mentions it, he will buy it for her birthday. However, when her birthday came, she found he had bought her a nice nightgown instead of the washer. Distressed, she decides to return the nightgown on Monday to get the money for the washer. The woman selling the washer heard this, and convinced her it’s more important to show gratitude for her husband’s gift.
