Fiction, Short Story
Dell Bryant, a trapper, is friends with a boy he calls the Lad, who values nature and is against killing animals. When Dell hears that there is a rare black fox roaming the canyon, he is excited to catch it, but the Lad argues that God put rare animals on earth so that people can appreciate them. Dell and the Lad make a deal that if the Lad can catch the fox without harming it, Dell will hunt elsewhere. To Dell's surprise, the Lad catches the fox, and Dell honors his end of the bargain.
