Frank Abagnale, whom the film is based off of, claimed in his book that he taught as a Sociology professor at Brigham Young University. However, BYU refutes this claim. There is another claim that he worked as a teaching aide instead. Gerald R. Molen, the Latter-day Saint who produced so many of Spielberg's movies, has a brief cameo appearance in "Catch Me If You Can" as an FBI agent looking for Abagnale at the LAX airport. Tom Hanks, an actor in the film who plays the FBI agent charged with capturing Abagnale,had exposure to the LDS church in his youth. (ldsfilm.com)
