Mrs. Ashcroft has been sick her whole life when her husband demands she visit Dr. Banford, a renowned physician, with the warning that he will have to pay five hundred dollars if she doesn’t follow the doctor’s orders. When Mrs. Ashcroft meets the doctor, Dr. Bancroft compares her body to a car and explains that the maker of her body said to run it on fruits, vegetables, water, and whole grains. He also tells her that she needs to walk outside more. The next week he tells her not to say an unkind word about anyone, and the week after that he tells her to think kindly about anyone she doesn’t like. Finally, she is feeling better, and the doctor has her sign a document declaring that this is her new religion. She refuses to give up her faith as a Latter-day Saint, but the doctor reveals that the document is actually the Word of Wisdom, and that she must make it a part of her religion.
