Margaret has always worried that her husband’s parents have blamed her for her husband, Jed, not following in his father’s footsteps and finishing medical school. When they come out for their first visit, she wants everything to go perfectly, but instead, she’s sick with the flu, and they end up cutting their vacation short. Shortly after, a fishing accident injured her father-in-law’s hand, rending him unfit to continue as a surgeon. They again come out to visit, but her father-in-law seemed to have lost his purpose in life until his services were able to save their neighbor from a horrible illness. They decide to take over for the local, retiring doctor, having found contentment in the country life.
