Leila, an Algerian woman who lives with her husband and young daughter in Salt Lake, wants more freedom and control in her life. Her husband gets angry when he finds she has gone shopping without him and sends her to Saudi Arabia to live with his family until she's ready to obey him again. During her layover in London, she is abandoned by her escort and decides to seek refuge with her family in Algeria rather than doing as her husband ordered. On the way, she reads news of the September 11 terrorist attacks and sees her husband's face on the front page.
