Camilla Fenton, an orphan from California, is the new schoolteacher in Crandall, Idaho. She becomes interested in Stanley Rodgers, a young farmer. They marry and move into a large house on a farm, which Camilla is disappointed with, but is excited to fix up. The interior design is delayed when she becomes pregnant and has a baby. The longer she goes without being able to decorate her house, the more frustrated she becomes. When she travels back to California to help her aunt, she realizes how happy her family and farm make her.
