The Taylor family discusses what freedom means one night. They discuss if it means doing whatever you want, if freedom even exists, and if the church is a form of bondage. The oldest brother describes how he quit smoking on his mission. When the father comes home, he explains that while we all have agency, true freedom comes from living righteously according to God's laws. The mother and one of the sons resolve to quit their respective habits of drinking tea and smoking tobacco, and one of the daughters decides not to elope with a man who is not a member and who has several bad habits.
