A man visits a mine and wonders why God hid precious metals in the earth instead of leaving them in convenient bars on the surface. When he visits a school and sees the students learning, he realizes that God purposely made it so we have to search diligently for valuable things in life like gold or knowledge. The man then talks to his old friend who is a miner. The friend tells a story of how he owned mining stocks when the market wasn't doing well, and he took advantage of an old widow who bought the stocks from him for far more than they were worth. He later had regretted his actions and gave her her money back. He explained his true riches come from his conscience.
