After their father broke his hip, Kim’s sisters insist that his is too old to live on his own. They want him to sell the family home and move to a nursing home. Kim sees how this breaks his father’s heart, and offers for him to move in with him until he can live again on his own. His father agrees, and the positive repercussions are seen instantly; Kim’s wife, Mary Ann, quits her job, allowing her to stay at home and care for Kim’s father, and also forcing their children to become self-reliant as they can no longer rely on Mary Ann’s income. However, money is tight, especially with Rosemary getting married. The family becomes busy, and neglect Kim’s father. Kim’s father sinks into a depression that affects his health. After an accident leaves Kim’s father in the hospital, Kim recognizes it’s time for a change. Kim and Mary Ann sell their house, and move back into the family home with Kim’s father.
