As an American woman living in Mexico, Senora never intended to become involved in the life of Graciela. When Graciela’s mother, Lolita came to her, asking for her help in providing opportunities for Graciela, her intention was to turn them away. However, after speaking with Graciela, a plan begins to form in Senora’s mind, and Graciela is able to attend secretarial school. At church, Graciela meets Jim and they fall in love. It seems as if everything is working out perfectly, until a rich Mexican man takes an interest in Graciela, and Lolita agrees to a marriage between the two of them. Senora is heartbroken at the news, and does everything within her power to change Lolita’s mind. In the end, it is Graciela who makes the decision to stand up for herself, and the members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints come together to plan Graciela and Jim’s wedding.
