Maureen, working as a school librarian, resigns when she hears she’s joint-inherited a castle in Scotland. She plans to travel and research her family history over in Europe as she investigates the claim. Right before she leaves, however, she meets a man, Steve, who she finds attractive, and who is sad to see her go. On the boat ride over, Maureen meets a young girl, Diane, who is meeting her fiancé in Scotland. When they arrive, Diane learns that his parents are not pleased with them getting married right then because of the financial situation it would leave them in. Maureen invites Diane to join her in living with her cousin, and Diane agrees. Diane finds a job, and is determined to work and save the money they needed to get married. While staying there and researching in the libraries, Maureen meets another man who catches her interest, Robert, who stays in a charming cottage on the castle’s grounds. Over Easter, the family visits the castle, finding it in worse shape than they had hoped for. Maureen realizes that Robert is interested in courting her, and spends some time away to make a decision. Ultimately, she decides to return and court Robert.
