When Linda marries Henry and moves to a small town in the middle of nowhere, her uncle reminds her to seek “more than the bread of life.” Because of this, she slowly transforms the town where she lives by offering free music lessons and inspiring others to beautify their houses. Together, Linda and Henry have many children, but Linda is continually bothered by the affection Henry’s brother, Mel, shows for her. Mel finds oil on his part of the farm, and from it becomes rich. He financially helps Linda and Henry in multiple different ways, which Henry is unbothered by until he realizes Mel’s feelings for Linda. Linda and Henry’s marriage threatens to crumble as Henry believes Linda returns Mel’s love, but after Linda suffers a tragic accident, Henry realizes she has always been true.
