When Andrew left for Zion, he planned to work until he had enough money to send for his fiance, Jane. He endures the hardship of the plains, crossing with a family that becomes as dear to him as his own. One girl, Margaret, falls in love with him, even though she knows he is engaged. In Utah, Andrew obtains land to grow wheat, and eventually has the money to send for Jane. However, he gets a letter in response, saying that Jane had been married. Andrew is heartbroken. He uses the money instead to send for his two young siblings. Shortly after this time, Andrew receives a mission call to his homeland. He is eager to go, and it is arranged for Margaret to come and care for his young siblings. Andrew preaches the gospel, and at the close of his mission, Jane’s husband has died, and she asks Andrew to visit her. Andrew realizes that Jane cares too much about wealth to be a good pioneer wife. He also realizes that he has fallen in love with Margaret. When he returns home, he proposes to Margaret, and they are married.
