Karmine's life turns upside down when she finds out her husband has been having an affair with a man. At the same time, her aging mother's health worsens and Karmine must watch her near-constantly to take care of her and to keep her from taking her own life. As Karmine continues to fill her role as mother and daughter and works to understand her husband and let him back into her life, she realizes she doesn't know what she's holding onto. The Church no longer seems like an anchor to her, nor does she want it to be one.
