Salt Lake City, Utah: Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Mutual Improvement Association, March 1919
Fiction, Short Story
Frank Blake talks with Doctor Dayton about Frank's plan to bribe a contractor. Doctor Dayton is disappointed in him, as Frank has always been honest until now. Franks asserts that God isn't real, and that men were made from nothing and will become nothing when they die, but Doctor Dayton mentions the idea of a life before and after this earth life. When Frank's pregnant wife falls ill and almost dies, Frank reflects on how horrible and pointless a life that permanently ends is, and he finds comfort in the idea of life as an eternal circle, resolving that if his wife dies, he will live righteously to meet her again. His wife and child live, and they begin learning about the Church.
