Ralph Woods is a preacher assigned to minister at a mining camp. The men there don't like him, but he is defended by Harrie, a half-white, half-Native-American woman who lives there. Ralph and Harrie don't get along at first, but Ralph teaches Harrie to read, which she has always wanted to learn how to do. Harrie is insecure about her status as half-Native American, and even when Ralph tries to explain to her that everyone is a child of God she is still troubled. For Christmas, Ralph's uncle, aunt, and his past flame visit, but Ralph realizes he is in love with Harrie. Harrie warns him of one of the miners trying to kill him, and the murder attempt uncovers a diary that reveals that Harrie actually isn't half Native American. Ralph and Harrie then marry.
