Mary Baldwin decides to travel to New York to study art despite her father's misgivings. While there, she struggles finding work, and when one of her teachers offers to arrange a meeting with her and a potential employer, she discovers it was a ruse to get her alone and attempt to kiss her. Mary's roommate explains that that is how things work in New York, and Mary must see things differently because she is LDS. Mary eventually returns home to Utah and uses her knowledge of art to redecorate her home.
