Unwilling to give up smoking, Clifford was never sealed to his wife while she was still alive. After her death, he determined to make amends, helped by his new friend Sheila. He successfully quit smoking, but before he could be sealed to his wife, his relationship with Sheila progressed until he was sure his wife would never forgive him.
