Doctor Jervis is discouraged because while his colleagues seem to be having success with their patients, he hasn't. His latest patient is a mother with young children, and despite his broad experience and efforts, he doesn't know how to help her. He remembers an event from his childhood where his little sister was dying and his father healed her by giving her a priesthood blessing. He realizes that there are miracles even in modern times and that he needs to rely on God, not his own skills and knowledge. He gives a blessing to the mother, who wakes up from her coma.
