At the death of their beloved Aunt Lucinda, Lila’s three siblings all come back to Kansas for the funeral. They are given a letter by a neighbor that their aunt wanted them to have, and instructed to read it after the services. However, after dropping off their family friend at the airport, a tornado suddenly appears, chasing them to their house where they barely get to safety in the cellar before their house is swept away. While dealing with the emergency, they realize that the letter is lost. Eventually, they miraculously find it and learn that the secret Aunt Lucinda had kept for years was that the hill behind their house had oil.
