Fiction, Short Story
Arthur Ellertson has always lacked mental valor, and his father sends him to work as a telegraph operator for a railroad to improve Arthur’s nerves. One night while Arthur is working, a terrifying storm comes, destroying a bridge and knocking out communication with the trains. Arthur realizes that there is a train coming with his father on it that is set to go over the broken bridge, and he suddenly gains the courage to go out into the storm and signal to the train to stop. The train sees him and manages to stop in time, and Arthur’s father prays to thank God that Arthur has learned bravery.
