Yesterday is filled with the same promises as tomorrow, Lillibeth discovers.
When the one she loves goes on a mission, Lillibeth finds stories in the diaries of her ancestors that give her strength to make the decisions she must make for her own life today. Looking back, she discovers that her namesake Lillibeth followed her Grandfather Boyden all the way from England only to discover that he had married another woman.
Some of the same traumatic experiences become a part of Lillibeth's life today. Though she has cared for Steve's mother while he is on his mission, though her family ties are very close, she must watch while Steve marries another woman and wait until finally the dreams of her heart can be fulfilled.
The story of Lillibeth and her reminiscences in the diaries of her grandmothers of the past serve to remind us that though our ancestors were pioneers who suffered unto tragedies, we must face some of the same difficulties they faced as our own lives unfold. We must bear some of these trials with the same strengths; we must learn to make similar sacrifices to develop our own attributes of compassion and pure love.
